Our Reactor Has Traveled Thousands of Miles finally and Arrived At Bangguo and Daye Converter Stations
Time:2024/11/01 Publisher:经纬正能 Share:

The Jinshang-Hubei ±800 kV Ultra-High Voltage Direct Current (UHVDC) project is the seventh UHVDC project in Sichuan and is recognized as the highest one in terms of altitude. Its primary objective is to transmit electricity generated by hydropower facilities located in the upper reaches of the Jinsha River to the Central China region.

On February 16, 2023, the project was officially launched according to the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC). It stretches 1,901 kilometers, passing through four provinces or administrative regions: Tibet, Sichuan, Chongqing, and Hubei. The Jinshang-Hubei project utilizes advanced domestically developed multi-terminal cascading technology for UHVDC. It will include two converter stations—Kamei in Chengdu, Tibet, and Bangguo in Ganzi, Sichuan—to gather hydropower and new energy resources. Additionally, the Daye converter station will be built in Huangshi, Hubei, linking it to Central China's UHV AC backbone grid.

On July 12, 2023, a foundation ceremony was held for the Chongqing section, marking the beginning of full-scale construction for the project. Once in operation, It is expected to deliver 40 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually, ensuring a reliable power supply during peak periods in Central China. This initiative is crucial for optimizing the national energy structure, addressing clean development needs, and increasing the share of renewable energy. Also it is the second major UHVDC initiative aimed at "external electricity entering Hubei" and is recognized as a significant clean energy project included in the national "14th Five-Year Plan."

It starts from the hydropower base in the upper Jinsha River and concludes at the Daye converter station in Huangshi City. This project represents a vital state-supported initiative for promoting economic recovery in Hubei following COVID-19 and fostering the development of Central China.
